Fuller lips for a younger look? Thu, Aug 18 2011

Fuller lips for a younger look?

Recent research shows that even if a woman has wrinkles, eye bags, sagging jowels and greying hair, a rosy and firm set of lips will make them appear younger.

However, volume in the lips starts to decline as early as mid-30s for men and women. An genetics play a big role as well. Not everyone is born with the Marilyn Monroe pout!

So what can you do?

A common concern among women who augment their lips is that they’ll be overfilled, creating a “duck-like look where the lips jut out. But, in the hands of an experienced injector who can fill the lips incrementally, the lips can be augmented to create a completely natural look.

Injecting the lips with hyaluronic acid filler like Juvéderm can create fuller, plumper lips. And in some cases, injecting Botox (which reduces movement of the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles) around the mouth can help create a more youthful appearance all around.

Keeping your lips moisturized, with a product like Jane Iredale’s Lip Drink that contains a sunscreen and little to no petroleum additives, will help preserve lip volume. Sun damage actually causes the collagen and elastic fibers in your skin to breakdown. It also causes changes in the tone and texture of your skin that can make you look much older than your real age.

You can also enhance the appearance of your lips by using a Lip Gloss or Lip Stain. Look for natural shades that complement and mimic your natural lip color.
Lastly, another great tip for keeping your lips and skin looking youthful is: DO NOT SMOKE! Smoking limits blood flow to the connective tissues in your body, narrow blood vessels, and increases your body’s enzymes that break down collagen. What is the result? “Smokers Lines around your lips and a decrease in fullness of your lips.
