Meet Dr. DeSpain

Since I began private practice in 1992, my staff and the range of services that we offer have grown significantly. DeSpain Dermatology Center has expanded to a professional team of patient service specialists, nurses and estheticians who each competently and effectively serve all of your dermatologic needs.

While I will continue to see patients each day, I have made several changes to our staff to better serve your needs. I know you will find these new staff members a welcome addition to your medical care at DeSpain Dermatology Center. Each one has been chosen for their professional ability and compassion.

In February of 2007 Janet Miedema, Physician Assistant, joined the DeSpain team. Janet is originally from Colorado and received a Masters of Science in Anatomy from Colorado State University and in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of New England. 

In July of 2007 we will welcome Dr. Kimberly Cayce to the practice. Dr. Cayce is currently finishing her dermatologic residency in North Carolina, was raised in California, Missouri and is looking forward to returning to the Midwest.

In the fall of 2006, DeSpain Dermatology Center relocated within The Village of Cherry Hill to a bright new office across the street. Our new office offers generous patient care areas, a larger open reception space, retail facility, and curb-side parking directly in front of the office.

We still spend the majority of our time diagnosing and treating multiple disorders of the skin, hair and nails. Patients with hives, lupus, psoriasis, skin growths and medication reactions all come to our office each day for care. Every day and every patient is different. I never have a boring day!

Our move to Corona Road also included the addition of a new state-of-the-art medical spa, Skintuition. Elective skin care treatments such as microdermabrasion, glycolic acid peels, laser skin rejuvenation, and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy are used to refresh and transform aging and damaged skin. Injectable fillers such as Botox and Restylane are used to soften wrinkles, and skin tightening (Titan) and laser hair removal are performed by nurses and estheticians with the most current dermatologic technology. Each member of the Skintuition team receives advanced training in their specialization and operates under direct physician supervision.

There are many potential skin treatments available for you to choose from. Some are valid and helpful; but there are others that are unproven, unnecessary, and dangerous. The most fulfilling aspect of my job is helping each patient find the best skin care treatment available.

As you can see, there is a lot going on in the office!

Credentials

John DeSpain, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Missouri- Columbia, graduating magna cum laude in 1984. Following residency, he completed a fellowship at the University of Colorado where he specialized in dermatopathology. He has been in private practice since 1992.

Dr. DeSpain is past president of the Missouri State Dermatological Society and is affiliated with a number of professional state and national dermatological organizations. Currently, he is also serving a teaching appointment at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.

Although Dr. DeSpain has lived and practiced in other places, he has always loved the people of Boone County. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, fly fishing, the arts, and boating.
