Acne
Acne is a skin condition occurring on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. It is not caused by dirt, but rather by several factors, including: changes in hormones, bacteria, and a genetic predisposition. Acne may occur during adolescence or adulthood. Symptoms include plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), inflamed pimples (pustules), and deeper lumps (nodules).
Controlling acne is an ongoing process that works best by preventing new acne breakouts. Existing blemishes must heal on their own. Wearing as little cosmetics as possible, choosing non-comedogenic products and removing any cosmetics each night with gentle cleanser can keep pores clear.
Acne is not caused by certain foods or not washing your face, although these things can make acne worse. Often acne will clear up on its own after several years. However, untreated acne can leave permanent scars that can be disfiguring and upsetting to the patient. To avoid acne scarring, treatment is important. There are many very effective options available.
